Beginnings of a dead hedge
On our January workday we started building our dead hedge to create a habitat for all kinds of wildlife on site. Thank you to all our volunteers, great work!

You won’t believe how much our site has changed since 2010 when the idea of a garden first arose. From tiny beds to mounds and ponds, hard to believe it was once a wharf on the Surrey Canal. So much has been done by volunteers, and the work goes on... maintaining a large garden has its challenges but it’s also loads of fun!! . . Join us this sunday 12 - 3 to get a whole load of essential jobs done. Bring cake to share and meet the locals ...all welcome.The next Peckham Permaculture Club is happening this Saturday 1-3pm. There will be lasagna! * * At the last session we got the chickens working their tractor again, propagated the jostaberry bush (everyone took a cutting home) and took a few measurements of some empty space for what might turn out to be a very exciting project (did someone say yurt?) It was great to see some new faces too! Also, interesting to see what the permablitz team did the previous weekend; someone has mic'd up a cherry tree!Meet our chickens! Well, one of them. There’s 6 and they’re rescue hens, from @freshstartforhens. It’s so nice having them around and the kids at Monday’s group always love to feed them. 🐣Want to learn more about compost? If so, come to the garden on Sunday for our Permablitz session! You can come for the whole day, or just a part. . . 10am-12pm - Join us for a free 'introduction to composting' workshop. We'll look at what compost is, different styles of composting, how to make and manage a wormery, bokashi, the soil food web, troubleshooting and much more. . 12-1pm - Lunch. Bring a dish to share to keep people going through the day. We'll make hot soup too. . 1-5pm - Continuing to look at composting in situ. We'll be building soil fertility, sheet mulching and managing other seasonal maintenance. Over the years, permablitz sessions have transformed the forest garden and hugelmounds, and given us a great opportunity to share what we've learnt with other keen gardeners. Open to all.Our veg stall is open today 1-4pm!Last week our little gardeners met the chickens, fed them, collected their eggs and studied an amazing old hornets’ nest.
